I’m Chris and am a freelance scientist (I lecture chemistry to the highest bidder!) and my research concerns applications of controlled surface chemistry (e.g. for sensors and water repellent surfaces) and studying the bubbles and foams. My claim to fame is being interviewed on BBC Hereford and Worcester on an article I published about whether tapping fizzy drinks cans actually stops them spraying everywhere.
Science communication through Outreach events is massively important in enthusing the next generation of scientists and I have represented the Royal Society of Chemistry at a number of science festivals and worked on the Natures Raincoats outreach exhibit. Natures Raincoats is a collaborative effort between Oxford University, Nottingham Trent University, Northumbria University and Hochschule-Rhein Waal (Germany) which shows just how awesome water repellent surfaces are and how much we have learned from Nature.
In addition to science I enjoy photography and trying to wear out a spaniel!
