The next I’m an Engineer/Scientist events will run concurrently from the 13th to the 24th June 2016, and applications are open now! Full details for both follow.
The engineering themes in June…
The event is split into different zones, each with its own theme. In each zone five engineers compete for students’ votes by answering questions and taking part in live chats. One engineer in each zone will win £500 to spend on more STEM engagement. Here’s what the zone list looks like:
- Aerospace Zone — funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering
- Environment Zone — funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering
- Health Zone — funded by Wellcome Trust
- Water Zone — funded by Wellcome Trust
We will also be running a General Engineering Zone. A zone where 5 engineers from completely different fields and areas of engineering all answer students’ questions on any topic the students like. General zones are named after SI units:
- Kilogram Zone — funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering
Engineers apply by Sunday 1st May at: imanengineer.org.uk/engineer-apply
The science themes in June…
- Antibiotics Zone — funded by The Royal Society of Chemistry and the Biochemical Society
- Catalysis Zone — funded by The Royal Society of Chemistry
- Ecosystems Zone (primary school zone) — funded by Wellcome Trust
- Parasites Zone — funded by Wellcome Trust
- More zones TBC, watch this space…
We will also be running 4 General Science Zones! These are zones where 5 scientists from completely different fields and areas of science all answer students’ questions on any topic the students like. The zones are named after elements of the periodic table:
- Mercury Zone (primary school zone) — funded by The Royal Society of Chemistry
- Thallium, Lead, and Bismuth Zones (for secondary schools) — funded by Wellcome Trust
