The Times Cheltenham Science Festival are seeking a confident event manager for Space Dome- an immersive interactive venue at this year’s June festival.
Last year they created a Dino Zone, which saw over 14,000 visitors and this year they’re building on that success and creating our space themed hands-on venue.
They have a range of organisations providing content and are working with UK Space Agency, Research councils, Airbus and with a range of UK Universities to showcase the research coming out of UK companies and institutions and its impact on space programmes.
Space Dome provides an ideal public engagement opportunity and gives time for face to face discussion with the public, other researchers and industry representatives.
They’re looking for a capable events manager or science communicator who is used to working in busy public facing roles. The event manager will need to be confident in:
- Speaking in front of groups of children and the general public, being a welcoming face for the venue
- Presenting a short mission control and launch pad sequence as the ‘launch director’ and leading a simple 10 minute activity where visitors take on roles as part of the mission control team
- Leading volunteers and working with site staff to ensure all health and safety requirements are met within the venue, capacity is monitored and any accidents or incidents are referred to on site first aiders.
This is a freelance role with a day rate of £150, plus £10 daily per diems offered. The event manager would need to be available for all days of the festival, Tuesday 7- Sunday 12 June 2016, plus ideally a briefing Monday evening to allow time to familiarise with the venue before they open on Tuesday morning.
